Why Phi Kappa Psi?

Phi Kappa Psi is a smaller house in comparison to many other fraternities at the University of Washington, with 32 active members. This is a great advantage for men looking to have a house with a strong brotherhood. This gives brothers the ability to develop strong friendships across pledge classes. Never will you feel like you are just another person in the crowd.

Guaranteed Double or Single Room:

Phi Kappa Psi wants you to enjoy living in our house. No male will be squeezed into a room with three of four other guys. Every room will only have one or two occupants to maximize privacy and living space. This is a major advantage over the many triples in the UW dormitories. Not only that but you also have the right to modify your room; you can repaint, recarpet and secure that room for the next 3 quarters. Here are some examples of what people have done with their rooms:

The three edicts of Phi Kappa Psi:

  1. No Hazing
  2. No Illegal Substances
  3. No Prejudice

These are three of the most important rules at Phi Kappa Psi. We are very strict about these rules and make sure all brothers abide by them. We do not believe that hazing, illegal substances, or prejudice of any sort is beneficial to the fraternity whatsoever.

One of the Largest Scholarship Funds in the UW Greek System:

Last year, the endowment fund of Phi Kappa Psi distributed over $25,000 dollars in scholarships to members of the house. The house has 13 different scholarships ranging from $150-$1500 dollars. In addition, some of the scholarships will have multiple winners. The chapter has a variety of scholarships focusing on academics, house involvement, community service, financial need, etc. Below is a picture of last year's scholarship winners.

Cabo Retreat:

Another great thing about Phi Kappa Psi is the Cabo retreat. Every spring break, members have the opportunity to go to Cabo for the American Leadership Academy Seminar. This seminar, full of successful Phi Kappa Psi alumni, helps brothers gain knowledge on how to be great leaders in life. See more pictures of the Cabo retreat in our Pictures section.

FAQ:

Will Phi Kappa Psi be detrimental to my grades?

Absolutely not! Here at Phi Kappa Psi we all understand that academics is the primary reason one attends college. It is the most important aspect of your future.  The chapter makes sure students are focused with weekly study tables, counseling with the scholarship chair and GPA goals. In addition, our multitude of scholarships keeps brothers motivated to do well in school.

Do I have to be a freshman to join Phi Kappa Psi?

Not necessarily. While most of our fall and spring rushees are freshman we will consider sophomores and juniors. Membership is based more on house compatibility than year in school.

What if I don’t think I belong in a Fraternity?

Fraternities are not for everyone, but rushing is a great way to see if our fraternity has something to offer you.

How much does living at Phi Kappa Psi cost?

Costs of living vary each quarter but are approximately what you would pay to live in the dorms. Food and social activities are also included.

How is the food at Phi Kappa Psi?

Our chapter house currently employs a private chef to make 3 hot meals per day each school day. Our chef is an experienced caterer and makes a wide variety of different meals. As a part of rushing we encourage you to come over for a meal as its a great way to meet the brothers and get to try the food.

Do I have time for a fraternity?

Fraternities are major time commitment, but our brothers are all able to manage their time to include numerous fraternity activities while continuing to do well in school. Time management is an important skill you will learn here and will help you tremendously throughout school and your future.
